If one had to describe last Friday’s Red Bull Thre3Style DJ Battle with one word, it would easily be, ‘epic’. From a supremely skilled crop of party rocking DJ’s competing against each other in a wildly creative and lively DJ battle, to the likes of DJ royalty such as Mark Ronson, A-Trak, and Jazzy Jeff gracing the stage with some awesome sets of their own, the Thre3Style event was one for the books. In the end, Chicago’s own Trentino took home the winning honors, along with $20,000 bucks and will represent the US at the Thre3Style World Finals in Toronto, Canada from November 4-10, 2013. DJ’s Scene and PHSH rounded out the 2nd and 3rd place spots respectively. Click through for more visual coverage of the event.
The turn up was extra real Friday night inside Lure nightclub in Hollywood, as six DJ’s poised to represent ‘Murrca in the Thre3Style World Finals took hold of a raucous crowd of 1,900 plus. DJ’s Phish, Scene, Konflikt, A-Rock, Donnie Dee and Trentino all took the stage and showcased their prodigious talents in party rocking.
Hosts of the night, StoneRokk and Graham Funke, otherwise known as The Captains of Industry.
Now for such a competition, Red Bull wasn’t playing around in their selection of judges. Ladies and gents, I’d like to introduce you to a judging panel consisting of nothing but legendary individuals in the DJ world – Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak and Z-Trip. Hashtag highly esteemed.
And now for the competitors:
DJ PHSH (Philadelphia)
DJ Scene (Seattle)
DJ Konflikt (Miami)
DJ A-Rock (Orlando)
DJ Donnie Dee (Dallas)
DJ Trentino (Chicago)
Trust, the atmosphere was electric the whole night through, the way the DJ’s all had everyone in the palm of their hands with their outstanding sets.
In the end, Trentino was crowned the Red Bull Thre3Style US Champion, instantly becoming $20,000.00 richer and earning a trip to Toronto, Canada to compete int he World Championships later this year.
Now the function just didn’t stop there, as Mark Ronson came through to bless the crowd with a set. What’s more, A-Trak suddenly joined him as they switched off every so often to do back to back sets that had everyone in Lure up jumping and wild. Truly it was a lesson in Party Rocking 101. Oh wait, there’s MORE. Mark’s sister and talented sound selector herself, Samantha Ronson, made a quick cameo to take a few flicks of her bro in action. But hollllll’ up, because guess who else came through for a quick show of face? Well, the man behind many a chart topping banger – Just Blaze! Together with Mark Ronson and A-Trak, they all wished Pharrell a happy birthday and proceeded to rock a quick set that included some of Skateboard P’s best hits.
Jazzy Jeff, a bonafide don dada of this DJ thing and master of one of the dopest handshakes ever, closed out the night with a set that included the likes of noted emcee, Skillz, coming through to get the crowd hyped the whole time.
