Samsung scored a huge coup with their latest partnership with a who’s who in hip hop. In their latest spot, we catch a behind the scenes look at Jay-Z working on his upcoming album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, which in a move that is so appropriately Jigga, is set to drop on the 4th of July.
Adding their talents into the project are none other than Pharrell, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and Rick Rubin. Now I saw a comment on the YouTube video from someone asking, “Who’s the homeless guy on the couch?”. So for those who are not aware of such musical royalty, that “homeless guy on the couch” is legendary record producer and co-founder of Def Jam records, Rick Rubin. The more you know. Now as for the add itself, Samsung’s products are cleverly placed and utilized in the production process of Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Now for the juicy info that you don’t see in the video. Playing on Samsung’s “The Next Big Thing” slogan, the partnership between the mobile phone magnate and Jay-Z appears to be unprecedented and genius marketing: Samsung has apparently already purchased 1 million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail for five bucks a pop. From there, they plan to give away free copies of the album to Samsung users 72 hours before release, via a mobile app which they’ll receive later this month. What this means for Jay-Z other than crucial and clever advertising? $5 million in sales before the album has even been released.
And this is why Jay-Z is not a businessman, he’s a business, man.
Your move Apple.

You are so interesting! I don’t suppose I’ve truly read a single
thing like that before. So good to find someone with a few
unique thoughts on this subject matter. Seriously..
