Bana and Caitlin’s brand, BEINHABITED first caught my attention with its unique aesthetic that was definitely more sui generis rather than your typical strain of streetwear. I found myself crossing paths with Bana and Caitlin at the very first Venue Trade Show a few months back, and being already intrigued by their brand’s image and designs, wasn’t surprised to find that they’re both very stylish individuals themselves. This is why we at The 5th Element were in consensus with featuring them in this edition of Style Profile.
For the readers out there who aren’t familiar with the particulars yet, please tell us about yourselves.
Caitlin and I (Bana) are both co-owners of our brand BEINHABITED and are both from Southern California. We both started off in the industry working at Crooks & Castles. Soon after that, I (Bana) left for LRG to work on their women’s line. After leaving LRG, I started freelancing for a couple of well known brands, (Young & Reckless and Tradition). Caitlin recently graduated FIDM and is focusing on our brand to help it get to where we want it to be.
Has being in the fashion industry directly influenced your designing style? Or is it the other way around where your style translates straight into your designs?
Bana – Not necessarily, I have always had a grunge/street type of style.
Caitlin – I wouldn’t say it has influenced me, but it definitely has made me feel more comfortable venturing out into different styles and brands.
What is your style philosophy?
Bana – You can pull off any kind of clothing as long as you have the confidence for it.
Caitlin – I agree! Haha
Name some of your fashion essentials.
Bana – My goth/go-go boots, a bandana, black leggings, a good snapback, and my Fendi backpack.
Caitlin – Velvet leggings, my golden beanie, patent leather Dr. Martens, high wasted jeans, and my Burberry watch.
How do you feel about the current trends in streetwear and fashion in general? What up-coming trends do you see starting to pop off?
Bana – I feel like it’s time for something new and I’m really excited to see what it has to offer, because a lot of the things I’m seeing now are rip offs of rip offs and it’s getting annoying.
Caitlin – All I know is people need to calm down with the faux leather.
What’s in store for the future of BEINHABITED?
We are working on a lot of exciting things, and although we can’t give out too much details, we are going to be changing a lot of things in 2014, so be excited!
