Well Played: DJ Fuze

Well Played - DJ Fuze
Well Played delves into the personal playlists of various creative minds and let’s you, the reader, in on what they’ve currently got on rotation.  In this inaugural edition, we check out what DJ Fuze of Los Angeles’ Power 106 has been bumpin’ lately.  Read on to check out a quick convo with Fuze regarding his chosen playlist.

First off, tells us a little bit about yourself.
I’ve been DJ’ing for a little over 13 years.  I’m a hip hop and alternative rock music head.  My passion for music matches my passion for sports.  My life pretty much revolves around both things.  I like to get out of town and travel whenever I get the chance.

Why did you choose some of these songs?
These are songs I listen to on a daily basis.  I’m a pretty calm person and I think the songs I chose are kind of a reflection of that.

Okay you’ve got Incubus, you’ve got Macklemore, you’ve got Imagine Dragons – it seems your taste varies in range.
Yeah!  I like me some rock and hip hop.  Those are my favorite two genres.  If I’m not listening to one, I’m listening to the other.

How would you describe your style of DJ’ing?
Definitely not boring.  I like to have fun with it, whether it’s with scratching, beat juggling, or some off the wall creativity with acapellas.  I have fun while I’m DJ’ing and I love that the dance floor feeds off of my energy.

How did you get into DJ’ing?
I was really into bands such as Linkin Park, Incubus, and Limp Bizkit when I was in high school.  All of these bands had DJ’s who would be scratching on the turntables during songs.  I thought that was the coolest sound ever and I knew I wanted to do the same thing on turntables.  When I turned 15, my mom took me to the music store and bought me a cheap turntable and mixer.  I had no idea what I was doing, and at the time, I never thought I’d ever make a living off of it.

What’s in store for DJ Fuze in the near future?
Hopefully you can catch me DJ’ing on Power 106 for many more years to come.  My next goal is to start DJ’ing at clubs out of town.  That’s a dream I’m trying to accomplish.  Also, be on the lookout for more of my mixes.  I love to keep putting out material whenever I get the chance.  Make sure to catch me at a club near you!

Richard "Reach" Guinto

Reach loves the Lakers, breakfast, the sound of a Fender Rhodes, and rapping along word for word to Wu Tang's "Triumph." If you're looking for him, he's probably out getting chicken.
