The Friday Five

The Friday Five

November marks the month when one of hip hop’s greatest and most influential albums of all time, A Tribe Called Quest’s “Midnight Marauders”, turns 20 years old.  As a young dude growing up, Tribe was definitely the most prominent sound that was molding my taste for hip hop.  To this day, whenever “Award Tour” comes through the speakers, I find myself wildly vibin’ along like it was the first time I heard it as a wide eyed kid trying to make sense of just how good that song was.  Even though I couldn’t really comprehend nor fully understand what the song was about back then, I just knew that the vibe, energy, and undeniable joy it projected was something that I loved.  I was a little dude feeling some type of way over this dope sonic influx.  ATCQ’s “Midnight Marauders” is timeless music, and this week’s Friday Five highlights my favorite joints from that classic work.

Richard "Reach" Guinto

Reach loves the Lakers, breakfast, the sound of a Fender Rhodes, and rapping along word for word to Wu Tang's "Triumph." If you're looking for him, he's probably out getting chicken.
