Amidst the swirl of controversy Kanye West has recently stirred up in terms of the remarks he’s been airing out about his displeasure with Nike – namely, him not receiving royalties from the Air Yeezy 2 sales and on a future project – comes the breaking news that he will instead be jumping ship to Adidas. Announced during his visit to New York’s Hot97 today, what this new partnership will translate to is more creative freedom for Ye as dreams of offering a full collection of Adidas x Yeezy sneakers dance around in his head. Never one to go into the night without leaving a wild quotable, Kanye went Latrell Sprewell on us with the following, “I took the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.” Go on Ye, get that paper. Being the biggest rap artist to rep the three stripes since Run DMC went all cultural phenomenon with it back in the 80’s certainly gives plenty to hope that whatever product Kanye puts out has the potential to be on that same level of success and influence.
