Pharrell Williams has been busy as of late, in 2013 he was all over the airwaves with “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky.” In other successes, his business endeavors had his name in the art, fashion, and tech world. So it only makes sense that he produced a full album while all of that was going on. I mean after all, it’s Pharrell right? Although the official release of Williams’ new album, G I R L, will be March 3rd, the internet has already been buzzing about it. If you haven’t heard it yet, then stream it on iTunes Radio while it’s still on there. Below you’ll find the full tracklist and some our favorite tracks.
1. Marilyn Monroe
2. Brand New
3. Hunter
4. Gush
5. Happy
6. Come Get It
7. Gust of Wind
8. Lost Queen
9. FREQ
10. You Know Who You Are
11. It Girl
The radio friendly “Happy” takes center stage but it’s the tracks with special guests that really stand out. Justin Timberlake lends his pop infused background into “Brand New”, making it perfect for the next radio single. Miley Cyrus lends her vocals on “Come Get It” and Daft Punk also adds to the smooth side of album with “Gust of Wind.” Alicia Keys’ sultry voice makes you want to hit repeat a few more times when you hear “You Know Who You Are.” The fast beats and funky melodies are reminiscent of Williams’ early Star Trak and N.E.R.D. days, while the other half of the album tones it down with some midnight vibes or…#theFeels for all you hashtag users.
With CD sales slowly plummeting and digital music always on the rise, we’ll have to wait and see how this album will turn out. We already predict high numbers but that’s just our opinion. How well do you think “G I R L” will do next week? Has Williams done it again? Is 2014 really his year and last year was just the warm up? It’s only the first quarter so it might be too early to tell, but in Williams’ universe being relevant all year round is the hustle mentality.
