Last night, Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar let loose the cannon on their highly anticipated collabo on FlyLo’s up-coming fall album, “You’re Dead!” Premiered by Power 106’s duo LA Leakers, the track titled, “Never Catch Me,” pulls the two heavy hitters from their respective genre realms onto a track to build a bridge between the FlyLo’s instrumental tenacity with Kendrick’s lyrical prowess. Where FlyLo would normally place loops and effects that gave a living, breathing characteristic to his music, in “Never Catch Me,” Kendrick breathes his own life into the track, bringing out that good kid, m.A.A.d city theatric lyricals. While “You’re Dead!” is probably one of the most sought after albums to close out 2014, this track just solidifies the anticipation. At LA’s FYF Fest two weeks ago, FlyLo gave glimpses into the album, which was notably more instrumental than previous works, providing a more eclectic electronic-jazz fusion sound that only Steven Ellison could conjure. “You’re Dead!” drops October 6 and is set to feature more outstanding collaborations — Herbie Hancock and Snoop Dogg, to name a few — until then, hit the jump to hear the album’s first release with Kendrick.
