Calling All Bedroom Battle MCs: Uncle Snoop Wants You

Amid all these new rappers making their way to hip-hop’s surface, one question does remain — does anyone even battle rap anymore? At least, outside of parking lot cypher circles and bored drunken nights at home, any semblance of on-the-regular freetyling — let alone battle rap — can only be heard on Sway in the Morning, followed by a, “Dang, I didn’t know ______ can freestyle!” But isn’t freestyling and battle rap how all the OG rappers started in the first place? Anyways, Snoop Dogg has come up with the answer to the question by teaming up with New York battle rapper Murda Mook, announcing today Uncle Snoop’s Gladiator School, a freestyle tournament of sorts that brings together the best unknown male and female MCs across the country to duke it out on Sept. 19 at the 2014 BET Hip-Hop Awards. On top of that, Snoop is opening up the competition to fans to fill in one slot at the event and give one person a shot at taking the whole competition, with full contest rules here. In the event press release, Snoop is calling all his fans out,

Put up or shut up. Don’t meet me there, beat me there. You Hear Me!
