Over the past year, Freddie Gibbs has been carving out a niche for himself as a rapper. Bouncing off of his soul-tinged project with Madlib, “Pinata,” Gibbs has been pushing a more explorative tip as exemplified on his latest drop, “My Dope House”. Produced by Montreal wonder, Kaytranada, Gibbs adds a taste of tenderness to the grisly banger by taking a stab at crooning a melodic, “Don’t fuck with me, stay in your lane,” line that offers a sweet kiss right before dropping a bombshell of bass, drums, sirens and sinister rhymes. Gibbs might be on the cusp of crossing that fine line between rapper and singer and adding it into his arsenal, but the rapper won’t ever let you forget what he started out as.
