Time, place, date. Sinister Tweets from the culture’s popular characters have used this formula to call congregations, break news and announce drops within a meager 140 characters. But maybe that’s just proof of the “less is more” notion especially after Odd Future ringleader Tyler, the Creator came out from beneath his stockpile of Golf Wang socks and announced a new music/video drop last night. Barring technical difficulties he came across, Tyler simultaneously used the opportunity to announce the release of “Cherry Bomb,” his fourth album following 2012’s “Wolf,” and to drop some new music from the project. Hit the jump to hear the song.
The new song, “Fucking Young,” pays odes to Tyler’s obsessive influence from Pharrell’s N.E.R.D. days, commissioning an unnamed singer that’s hopelessly lovestruck with a girl that’s too fucking young. Tyler jumps in with a pitched up verse and with lines like, “and I don’t want no relation, shit no relationship when my dick is longer than my intentions,” that he’s the same character as ever. The track seamlessly blends into a butta smoove track called “Perfect,” with Kali Uchis sounding like a young Erykah Badu playing the counter to the previous hopeless romantic and Tyler ad-libing his way through the tail end of it. Look out for “Cherry Bomb” to drop this weekend on iTunes.
