2015 is gracious enough for Halloween to fall on a weekend, so while you’re getting your Hotline Bling Drake costume ready (trust, you won’t be the only one) we’ve made a playlist of especially appropriate tuneage for whatever Halloween debauchery you find yourself sauntering into this weekend. Tracks from Keith Ape, Tyler the Creator, Geto Boys and Mobb Deep are just the tip of the iceberg for this zombie-esque sound selection, filling voids with heavy bass, trap beats, creaky breakdowns and all other weirdness in between. Hit the jump for all the goodies to fill your night with tricks and trill.
Keith Ape – It G Ma Remix (feat. Waka Flocka, Dumbfounded, Father, ASAP Ferg)
This selection was an automatic one. From the production, to the rhymes, to the visuals, Keith Ape recruited the right ghouls to elevate the remix to an already trippy turn up anthem.
Travis Scott – Antidote
Because anything and everything can happen at the night show.
Tyler the Creator – Yonkers
You can’t make a Halloween list without including OFWGKTA, let alone Tyler, the Creator. “Yonkers” marked creepy as Tyler’s signature move, and this video still gives us the jitters.
Father – Wrist
Father and Awful Records might be the Southern trap version of Odd Future, but the syrupy drip of Father and company on “Wrist” is the extra ooze on his already zombie drawl.
Geto Boys – Mind Playing Tricks On Me
Paranoia gets the better of Scarface, Bushwick Bill and Willie D, and with good reason. This ain’t no Beatfreakz type of paranoia.
ASAP Ferg – Murda Something
Waka Flocka and Ferg are on some other shit in “Murda Something,” riding some kind of malicious wave that still knocks super hard.
Ty Dolla Sign – Paranoid
Ty got two girls and he paranoid about them finding out about each other; perfectly understandable. What he should be more paranoid about is what happens AFTER they find out — but play on playa.
Jedi Mind Tricks – Blood Runs Cold
RIP to Sean Price, “Blood Runs Cold” is a prime example of Sean’s lyrical prowess at sending ice chills into your veins.
Mobb Deep – Quiet Storm
The brooding build up, the ominous and stalking piano keys, Mobb Deep and Queen Bee Lil’ Kim on one track – a dark storm was definitely brewing, ready to level your speakers with Mobb Deep’s signature menace and Kim’s ice cold dictatorship over her bars.
N.E.R.D. – Brain
However you want to interpret the line, “I just want your brain,” cranial ingestion of any metaphor is never a pretty picture — even when told by Pharrell.
Flying Lotus – Dead Man’s Tetris (feat. Snoop Dogg & Captain Murphy)
With a record entitled, “You’re Dead!” we had to throw a FlyLo track in here. But with Uncle Snoop and rap alias Captain Murphy adding some body to the multi-layer ode, “Dead Man’s Tetris” hits the mark for Halloween trill.
Bone Crusher Never Scared (feat. Killer Mike & T.I.)
Bone Crusher’s rip-roaring rhymes are optimal for pregame warm-ups, psyching yourself before a boxing match and before enduring a Halloween night in Hollywood. Godspeed.
Drake – Enemy
Got enemies? Good. Drake does too. But super-imposing his face onto his “enemies'” bodies? That’s a nightmare by itself too.
At last year’s Boo Over, guest DJ Nobody dropped a sinister Halloween set that opened with the theme song from FX’s hit show, “American Horror Story” and set the tone for a night of ghoulish endeavors. Check it out below:
