With Kobe Bryant’s swan song season nearing its end, it’s no doubt that the honor and tribute shown to the basketball great has been immense. From touching tributes at numerous opposing arenas throughout the country – places where Bryant had buried and twisted many a dagger shot countless times before – to think pieces, in-depth stories, and farewell articles extolling his feats and greatness, the Kobe Bryant farewell tour has reached a fever pitch appropriate in proportion to the contributions he’s made to the game of basketball. Of course, it wouldn’t have been a proper send off without Bryant’s longtime sneaker sponsor, Nike, to have their own celebration of his career.
Enter the “Black Mamba” pack, a collection of all of Bryant’s signature kicks – and ones he’s been closely associated with – that gradually fade from white to black with each shoe model released. Starting with the Huarache 2K4 in all white being released tomorrow, March 22nd via Nike’s SNKRS app, and finishing with the Kobe XI in black and gold being worn by Bryant himself in his final game on April 13th, the “Black Mamba” pack is a celebration of sneaker innovation and collaboration that was created through the genius of visionary sneaker designer, Eric Avar.
