“143” Celebrates 3 Years Of Bringing R&B Back To L.A. Nightlife

1 – 4 – 3

I – Love – You

One letter in “I”

Four letters in “Love”

Three letters in “You”

Pager codes were essential back in the day. Every cool group had their own numeric code system and if you didn’t understand it then why do you even have a pager bro? I could go through some common ones used but the explanation for “143” above is all you really need to know. A late night 143 page on your Motorola was like the OG hotline bling. Except it wasn’t a booty call but more like a girl asking you if you’ll buy her pizza at school the next day.

When L.A. party starters SoSuperSam, Siik, and Partytime created “1-4-3” it was once a month and usually on the last week. I remember we went a few times at Lock & Key in Koreatown, then a lot of times at Footsies. One night at Footsies there were food trucks, Coming To America was playing, and the DJ was spinning Aaliyah jams…it was literally everything you could ever want from a L.A. party. From then on they continued to get bigger, the lines got longer, surprise guests came through, it moved to Los Globos, then moved to Echoplex, and even expanded to other states. Three years later and the R&B music still bumps like it did from day one. And to celebrate this milestone they got babygirl Mya coming through for their anniversary party on Thursday April 28th. To help y’all groove and practice your dance moves they created a 3 hour (yes, 3 hours of R&B!) mixtape, hit play and download below.
