The musically inclined trio are bringing the feels with their first release.
Like most new words I come across on the internet, I immediately Google the word to search for its origin and meaning. When I came across “Sonder” on a recent SoundCloud dig I listened to the tracks in its entirety first, thinking I’ll have a better understanding of what the word entailed. A few minutes later and I was still scratching my head. I quickly researched and after reading a few articles online I’m still not convinced I actually got a solid answer. But here’s the best explanation I could find (in GIF form!).
Totally adding this to my daily vocabulary.
Going by the collective name as “Sonder,” this trio includes music producers Atu and Dpat as well as vocals from singer Brent Faiyaz. A few days ago they dropped a continuous track on SoundCloud simply titled Victoria. Altogether the 11 minute and 22 seconds long track is a musical masterpiece perfect for a chill session at home. “Invite Me” plays as the first track and is an original song by Brent Faiyaz, reworked for this project. “No Love” features haunting vocal work by Lyves, calling to her lover “come on lift me up, I keep falling. I’m losing faith ’cause you keep stalling.” In the track “Alone,” Atu really shines when R&B group Cherish is used as a sample, done correctly in Atu’s signature style. The other tracks “Memo,” “Sin,” and “Victoria” round up the trio’s Part 1 of their collaboration project. The final seconds are similar to the end of a journey and the listeners are left bewildered and emotional. But the overflowing amount of feels is suddenly not enough. We’ll just be pressing replay a few more times as we patiently wait for Sonder’s next installment to drop.
