“2017 belongs to the Umbrella”, Tory Lanez tweeted after announcing two new projects to kick off the new year.
“The New Toronto 2” and “Chixtape 4” mixtapes aren’t necessarily two halves of a whole, but more so mirrors of Tory’s respective musical halves.
“The New Toronto 2”, the follow-up to the 2016 edition, bases itself in his raps. Play Picasso takes most of the production credit (with a few assists from C Sick, Lavish and Lanez himself) plus guest appearances ASAP Ferg, Rick Ross and a track from Araabmuzik rounds out the features list.
“Chixtape 4” finds Tory flipping classic 90s and 00s jams — including P. Diddy’s “I Need a Girl Part 2”, Mario’s “Just a Friend”, Ginuwine’s “Differences” and R. Kelly’s “Ignition” — into his own modern chopped versions. A new year is already underway but cuffin’ season is still in full effect.
Peep both tapes below.
