The Friday Five

The Friday Five

Earlier this week, the musical world mourned the loss of legendary keyboardist, George Duke.  A virtuoso of his craft and a luminary figure in music for decades, Duke was a master of composition and an absolute musical maven.  Not surprisingly for a man of his talents, George Duke has worked with the likes of Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, Jill Scott, and Michael Jackson.  The work that he offered to the musical community was highly influential, so it goes without saying that that influence spilled into hip hop.  Numerous hip hop artists from Pete Rock, Common, J Dilla, and Kanye West have sampled George Duke’s work, turning his hits into theirs.  This week’s Friday Five is a tribute to the legend that is George Duke and lists off the top hip hop songs that sampled his work.

Richard "Reach" Guinto

Reach loves the Lakers, breakfast, the sound of a Fender Rhodes, and rapping along word for word to Wu Tang's "Triumph." If you're looking for him, he's probably out getting chicken.
