RECAP: UCLA JazzReggae Festival 2014 – Jam Day

DSC_1565
Right after UCSD’s Sun God, the UCLA JazzReggae Festival hosts some of the best line-ups within university events, and the 35th edition falling on Memorial Day followed true to form. Headlined by The Internet, Aloe Blacc (who coincidentally went to school across the freeway) and LA doggfather Snoop Dogg, the first half of the festival brought an infused event of music, food, art and culture with roots that run deep. Syd and Matt Martian kicked off the festival headliners, performing songs from their newest album, “Feel Good,” and some wavy interpretations of N.E.R.D.’s “Tape You.” Aloe Blacc preached to his alma mater’s rival school, performing songs like “I Need a Dollar,” “You Make Me Smile,” and “Wake Me Up.” Closing out with his haunted take on “Billie Jean,”  Aloe set the tone for Snoop Dogg to polish off the festival’s Jam Day, reeling out beloved jams that he may (or may not) have been featured on. The dude has such an extensive catalog and arsenal of personalities, Snoop could’ve played any persona and still bring the house down. Hit the jump for some photos.
